Homosexuality and the Bible

The topic of homosexuality, same-sex attraction, and gay marriage is unavoidable at this point in our culture. We can’t go a day without seeing it make headlines at a state and national level. In fact, in Texas this week a case is being argued on the matter of same-sex marriage and its constitutionality. It will undoubtedly be in the news and with it in the news you will see it in your news feeds on facebook and twitter. You will hear about it on the radio and it will even be a topic at work at times. The simple truth is that this topic is unavoidable.

Not only is this topic unavoidable, but the moral understanding on this issue has undergone a rapid shift in the past few years. Our culture has quickly shifted to make the matter of homosexuality an issue that is morally neutral. We are told that our sexuality does not carry the weight of right or wrong, but simply preference, in most cases at least.

As Christians we always want to be careful to not get caught up in cultural understandings of morality. God’s Word, the Bible, must be the final arbiter of truth as we consider issues of right and wrong. We should always run to God’s Word first and foremost and let it be our wise and gracious guide. God’s Word must inform our view of culture, not the other way around.
