O Come Let Us Adore Him

Back to Message Archive

Far too many people are content with far too little joy throughout the Christmas season. Many are content with gifts, parties, feasts, lights, decorations, family get togethers, and other family traditions. While all of these things are wonderful at many levels, they fall short of the true joy that Christ brings to Christmas. C.S. Lewis uses the analogy of a kid being happy to be left making mud pies in the slum, when a holiday at the sea is being offered to them. We are just the same when we seek joy in the various Christmas traditions that we have lined up. Rather than trying to manufacture joy through these celebrations, our hearts should overflow with joy as we recognize the impact and meaning of God becoming man that first Christmas, which should culminate in our celebrating. This will only happen when we get a hold of the grand view of Jesus the Scripture portray. Paul helps us do just that as we seek to prepare our hearts for Christmas by adoring Jesus.
