Tonight’s passage marks an important point in the history of the early church. We see the first Christian who ever gave up his life for following Jesus. So far we have seen Christians, arrested, threatened and beaten, but no one has paid the price of their life for following Jesus. Tonight that changes as Luke records the death of Stephen for faithfully sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Tonight's passage is worthy of careful attention. A man died to share this message. That adds some weight to its importance doesn’t it? Stephen shared this message knowing it could lead to trouble. He quickly saw that his life was literally in danger and he continued to share it. What he shares tonight is a message worth dying for.
