We are a culture that loves heroes. We look for them in every walk of life. We pay homage to the police officer who protects others, we give medals to the soldier who fights fearlessly to protect our country, we give awards to doctors who make advances in medicine and save lives from disease, and the list could go on. As great as all of these heroes are they can't solve for our deepest need. Our deepest need is not preservation of our physical body. Our physical bodies all have a shelf life and an expiration date. Where we truely need help is for our souls. We have a BIG problem. Sin is killing us spiritually. To be more accurate, it has killed us spiritually. We need a better hero than any that we dream up. We need a hero who can bring us what no other can. We need a hero who can solve our biggest problem (sin) and give us our biggest need (forgiveness and reconciliation with God). Jesus is that Hero and we see exactly how He comes through for us through His sacrificial death and victorious resurrection. (Mark 15-16)
