As we have been preparing to move to north Austin to start Southern Hills we have had some great opportunities and made some cool memories; this past week definitely fits into both of those categories. Michelle and I had the privilege of joining my home church, Trinity Baptist in Abilene, Texas for their forty-fifth annual Missions Celebration. Thomas and Rachel did not join us for this particular trip, but for a very good reason. Avery Ayres Dawsey was born on February 24. We are thankful that both Rachel and Avery are doing well.

Trinity has always had a special place in my heart. My parents met and were married at Trinity and it is the place where I fell in love with God and developed a desire to tell other people about Jesus Christ. Needless to say, it was an honor to have a part in their Missions Celebration. Trinity is a church that loves missions and that is committed to seeing the gospel spread throughout the world. This year’s celebration highlighted the fact that every believer is called to play a part in the mission of the church. As Christians we are all a part of His body and we are all called to service. We each have the responsibility of strengthening other believers and sharing the gospel with those who do not know Jesus Christ. We were encouraged and energized by the many ways that this theme was emphasized throughout the week.

Throughout the week Michelle and I had many opportunities to share our plans for Southern Hills. On Wednesday evening we were introduced to the church and I had privilege of preaching. That evening Michelle shared her testimony and taught the children of Trinity. On Thursday night and Friday night we were with small groups and we were able to share with them our passion for reaching the people of north Austin. On Saturday I attended a Men's Breakfast and Michelle participated in a Women's Luncheon. On Sunday I spoke to an adult Sunday School Class and that evening we took part in the annual International Dinner. It was a very busy week, but we enjoyed it very much. The people of Trinity were very kind and uplifting throughout the week.

Missions Celebrations are always a great chance to meet people who are serving God around the world, and this celebration was no exception. We had the privilege of spending time with and learning from Miguel and Christi Lopez, missionaries to Honduras, Chris Housewright, church planter to New Orleans and Paul Foster, church planter and pastor of RiverWest Baptist Church in Jenks, Oklahoma. It is always cool to meet people who are excited to serve God and share the gospel with other people! Please pray that God will do great things through these who have devoted their lives to spreading God’s Word.

It is hard to explain the blessing and encouragement Michelle and I received as we spent time with the Trinity family. The entire church went above and beyond to show their love for us and their excitement for what we are going to be doing in north Austin. So many people took time to express their love and to let us know that they will be praying for us. That means so much to us! Beyond that Trinity gave Southern Hills a very generous financial gift and they are making plans to bring a group to Austin this summer to help us host an event for our community. These gifts are evidence of what we already knew to be true; Trinity is committed to seeing people come to know Christ and grow in Him. We are humbled and honored to partner with the people of Trinity in accomplishing these goals. Thank you Trinity for your love and support.

We would also like to thank Pastor Kevin Kennedy, Joseph Plagge and the staff of Trinity for the privilege of taking part in the missions celebration. Thank you also for your incredible hospitality. We are very excited about partnering with Trinity and we pray that God will be honored as we serve Him together.
