Our Back to School Bash was a great success. With the help of a mission’s team from Trinity Baptist in Abilene, Texas we hosted between 150 and 200 of our neighbors on August 9th for an evening of fun. We had free food, bounce houses, games and door prizes, but most importantly we had the opportunity to meet and show the love of Christ to many of the people who live in our apartment complex. This was Southern Hills’ first formal opportunity to serve the community and we are praising God for a wonderful evening. We also want to thank Trinity for making the event possible; we could not have done it without them. (More Pictures)

Another way that God has blessed us in the short time that we have been here is by surrounding us with many local pastors and churches who are consistently encouraging us and offering assistance. God has given these pastors and churches very soft hearts for church planters and new churches, and they have loved and served us very well. We cannot thank God enough for blessing us with these brothers and sisters who have welcomed us and are helping us get settled into our new community and ministry.

Prayer Requests

On Thursday, September 8th we will kick off our Bible Studies. We will be meeting each Thursday evening in the Club House at our apartment complex and will be exploring what the Bible has to say about who Jesus is. We are very excited to begin these studies, and we greatly covet your prayers. Here are a few of our specific prayer requests:

  • Please pray that the people we are inviting will choose to come.
  • Please pray for us as we work hard to prepare for this new phase of our ministry. We are learning that there are many details that go into making something like this a reality and we want to make sure we honor God in every step of the process.
  • Please pray that God will work in people’s hearts and that lives will be changed as a result of these studies.

Also, please continue to pray for physical and spiritual strength of our team. We know that without God working through us we are certain to fail, so please pray that we will remain reliant on Him throughout this process.

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement and support. May God receive the glory from our lives and from the ministry of Southern Hills.
